The job of Journeyman Electrician was established for the purpose/s of maintaining electrical systems and their components in safe operating condition; providing information on proper operation; modifying/installing electrical services and determining the most efficient installation of additional systems.

QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or its equivalent. Minimum of four (4) years' commercial and industrial electrical experience required. Current Michigan Electrician Journeyman’s Card required. Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in commercial and industrial electrical desired. Must be able to meet physical demands of the working environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Analyzes drawings for the purpose of identifying location of new and existing electrical systems and determining the efficient installation of additional systems.
- Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/workorders efficiently.
- Installs electrical systems including under ground electrical conduit, fire alarms, switchboards, audio visual alarms, etc. for the purpose of maintaining them in safe operating condition.
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality for the purpose of ensuring efficient delivery of services to the District.
- Orders equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Repairs various items, systems and/or components (e.g. clocks, bells, exhaust motors, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
- Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Applicants must be able to meet the physical demands of the position. These include, but are not limited to: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and signifcant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 30% walking and 60% standing.
