The job of a Special Education - Health Aide was established for the purpose/s of providing the medical needs of an assigned special education student(s) and assisting assigned teaching personnel with the supervision and instruction of the assigned student(s) whose medical needs/disabilities necessitate special medical assistance/understanding/coaching; assisting teachers in developing students' daily living, academic and behavioral skills; and performing classroom clerical tasks.

8:15am-3:45pm - Start and Stop times will vary up to an hour based on assignment
195 days/year

 

 

Locations:  Varies.  Will be placed where needed throughout district.

Probationary Pay Rate:
$17.41/hr. for first 45 worked days then increased to $17.95/hr.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or its equivalent. Must have OPAC basic skills assessment, pertinent to position qualifications, at 70%. If OPAC testing is not on file, selected candidates will be contacted for testing.

 

Basic Responsibilities:

• Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.

• Administer medications, medical procedures and/or treatment, under the direction of the school nurse and according to school district policy, for the purpose of meeting the medical needs of assigned students.

• Assist teacher in bus loading and unloading for the purpose of providing a safe environment for the students.

• Assist the teacher in dealing with emergency student physical, emotional and/or behavioral situations as they arise for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

• Assist the teacher with planning of the individual student’s objectives (e.g. academic, behavioral, social, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the student’s goals.

• Communicate information obtained from parent/guardian regarding changes and updates related to student health/medical needs to the appropriate staff for the purpose of continual evaluation of student needs.

• Confer with teachers, ancillary staff, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing students' objectives.

• Implement established infection control policies and procedures for the purpose of maintaining a safe and clean environment for students and staff.

• Implement individual student plans, under the direction of the school nurse and/or administrator, for the purpose of meeting the student’s academic, social and daily living skills.

• Implement under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs, testing, and assessments including community-based instruction, in accordance with lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.

• Maintain health services for assigned student in accordance with State and Federal regulations and organization policy for the purpose of maintaining district, state and federal compliance.

• Maintain required documentation for activities within areas of responsibility in an accurate and timely manner for the purpose of maintaining compliance with district policy.

• Maintain students' files/records (confidential, non-confidential), under the direction of the school nurse and/or administrator, for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information.

• Monitor individual students, classroom, library, lunch time and playground/recess activities, etc. for the purpose of providing a safeand positive learning environment and implementing the goals of the individual student.

• Perform clerical functions within the classroom (e.g. attendance, scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials.

• Provide one-on-one physical assistance to students with medical needs/disabilities that require special assistance (e.g. monitoring blood levels, care of tracheal tubes, colostomy bags, catherization, etc.) for the purpose of meeting health and medical needs of assigned students. 1815 Job Descriptions55

• Supervise and assist individual and small groups of students, as directed by teacher(s) in such activities as play time, drills and games, field trips and personal hygiene/toileting for the purpose of providing required care for assigned students.

• Support and maintain classroom procedures for the purpose of providing a positive learning environment.
• Maintain regular personal attendance and punctuality for the purpose of ensuring efficient delivery of services to the District.
• Occasionally assist other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
