The job of a Vocational Education Paraprofessional was established for the purpose/s of assisting assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of students, and performing classroom clerical tasks in support of the instructional process.

Probationary Rate:
$17.76/hr. After 45 worked days rate increases to $18.31/hr.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or its equivalent. Relevant college education or trade school experience preferred. At least 2,000 hours of work experience in area being hired within last five years. ASE and OSHA certifications. Good communication skills and ability to work with students. Demonstrated aptitude to work well with high school students. Must have basic skills assessment, pertinent to position, at 70% on file in the Human Resources Department. If OPAC testing is not on file, selected candidates will be contacted for testing.
Basic Responsibilities:
• Provide students with assistance as directed by the classroom teacher in various instructional situations such as reviewing test materials, overseeing application of learned concepts, and giving actual demonstrations of job skill(s) to be learned for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
• Administer tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.
• Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Guide students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, remedial work, etc.) for the purpose of providing student success.
• Implement, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study.
• Monitor individual students, classroom activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. bi-weekly reports on special populations, students, scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher, and/or administrator in providing records/materials.
• Prepare bi-weekly reports for the purpose of maintaining accurate records.
• Supervise individual and small groups of students as directed by the teacher (e.g. learning safety rules and regulations, developing social skills, identifying job tools, equipment, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing academic instruction.
• Understand, practice and reinforce safety procedures and proper use of equipment to students for the purpose of maintaining a safe learning environment.
• Maintain regular personal attendance and punctuality for the purpose of ensuring efficient delivery of services to the District. • Occasionally assist other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
