The job of a Language Acquisition Aide was established for the purpose/s of assisting in the assessment and instruction of students' English language acquisition from their native language; and administering tests.

Time:  7:15am-1:30pm

 

POSITION BEGINS: AUGUST 26, 2024

 

Probationary Rate:

$17.09/hr.  After 45 worked days rate increases to $17.76/hr.

 

Qualifications:

High school diploma or its equivalent. Must understand, speak, read and write English. Basic knowledge of additional languages (Arabic, Vietnamese, Albanian, Bengali) preferred. Ability to work with students is required.  Must have basic skills assessment, pertinent to position qualifications at 70%.  Selected candidates will be contacted for testing if requirements are not on file with the district.

 

All Langauge Acquisition Aides must meet one of the following qualifications:

Basic Responsibilities:

• Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.

• Guide students in independent study (e.g. enrichment work, language acquisition, remedial work, etc.) for the purpose of fostering student success.

• Implement under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs (e.g. tests, homework assignments, make-up work, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving the student’s academic success through a defined course of study.

• Perform on occasion, clerical functions (e.g. copying, scheduling, faxes, bulletin boards, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records or other support materials.

• Perform record keeping (e.g. student work log, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing necessary records/materials.

• Support ELL students (e.g. attending parent-teacher conferences) for the purpose of assisting in communication to foster students’ success.

• Translate verbal and written communication(s) for the purpose of assisting students in the classroom.

• Maintain regular personal attendance and punctuality for the purpose of ensuring efficient delivery of services to the District. • Occasionally assist other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
